Karen Kristine Bagaason was born near Calmar, Winneshiek, Iowa, on March 25, 1867, and was named for mother's mother, Karen Kristine Frantsdatter. When she was only a toddler, her folks brought her and baby brother Ole to Riceland, Minnesota, where she grew up on the farm. She was a 15-year-old member of the confirmation class at Clark’s Grove on June 18, 1882. Sadly, Karen Kristine Bagaason was killed one year later.
[Freeborn County Standard - July 26, 1883] "Killed By Lightning - Last Monday noon, Carrie Bagaasen, aged 17 years, living a few miles from this city in the town of Riceland, was struck by lightning at her father's house and was instantly killed. She was standing at the head of the chamber stairs when the stroke fell. The house was somewhat shattered, but none of the rest of the family was injured. The unfortunate girl was buried yesterday." [Note: Carrie was 16, not 17, when she died.]
Her church death record states that her funeral and burial were at the Østre (East) church in Freeborn.
