He was born to Clifford and Ruth (Barrick) Stephens on September 1, 1942, in Marion. He spent his formative years in La Fontaine graduating from La Fontaine High School in 1960.
After high school Steve volunteered to serve in the United States Army during Vietnam War. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him a purple heart.
On August 19, 1967 he married to Linda Buckner. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary next month.
A lifetime fan and a Stock Holder of the Green Bay Packers. He was a devoted fan of IU Basketball up until September 10, 2000. He was a member of Sugar Grove Church of God.
Steve is survived by his wife, Linda Stephens of Avilla; three daughters, Kristine (Raymond) Webster of Granger, Tracy (Ed) Wright of Fort Wayne and Stephanie Stephens of Auburn; a son, Brian (Noelani) Stephens of Churubusco; nine grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Kelley Mohler.
No one was more excited than Steve, when on November 8, 2016 we voted to "Made America Great Again".
Calling will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on July 13, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., calling also one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on July 14, 2017, Pastor Rick VanHorn, officiating.
Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
