Before retirement, she was employed with the state of Florida Boy's School as a counselor.
She was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Okeechobee, where she served as the church mother.
Survivors include her son, Harvest D. Newton, Sr. of Okeechobee; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Strickland, daughter, Mary Lee Coleman, brother, James Getter; and sister, Essie Mae Dunbar.
SERVICES: Visitation will be at noon March 2 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, followed by a service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Okeechobee. Arrangements are by Stone Brothers Funeral Home. A guestbook may be signed at www.stonebrothersfuneralhome.com
