Hawthorne - Deacon Cleveland R. Johnson went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2017 at his residence after an extended illness. Born in St. Petersburg, FL, he relocated to Waldo, FL at an early age and was educated in the Alachua County School System. He was married to the late Maxine D. Johnson and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a supervisor at Tacahale Training Center, Gainesville, FL. He was a member and Deacon at Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church, Hawthorne, FL.
He's preceded in death by his father, Melvin Johnson; mother, Jessie Watson; stepmother, Gertrude H. Johnson; children, Cleveland Johnson Jr., Gertrude D. Johnson and Harriet J. Gordon.
Survived by his daughters: Melva Hubbard, Deborah (Willie) McGruder and Mary Johnson, all of Hawthorne, FL; and a host of grands, great grands, great-great grands; sister-in-law, Ruby L. Riley of Jacksonville, FL; and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church, 146 S. C.R. 21, Hawthorne, FL, Dr. Clarence Woods is Pastor & Officiant. Burial will be in Gilgal Cemetery. Viewing Friday at PINKNEY-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 21400 SE Hawthorne Rd, Hawthorne, FL 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. , and Saturday at Trinity UMBC 10:30 am - 11 am. No viewing after the eulogy. The cortege will form at Willie & Deborah McGruder's home 10:30 am Saturday. PINKNEY-SMITH FUNERAL HOME OF HAWTHORNE.
