Leroy graduated from High Point Central High School. After serving in the US Navy, he graduated from High Point College, now High Point University, with a BS in Physical education. In 1963 he founded Southern Mill Supply Company. He was preceded in death by his sister Dot Isom, and his son-in-law, Douglas Pinnell.
