Scicchitano, Dominick J.
COLONIE Dominick J. Scicchitano, 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Van Rensselaer Manor in Troy. Born in Fulton, N.Y., Dominick was the son of the late Salvatore and Vittoria (Procopio) Scicchitano. Dominick honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. For many years Dominick was self-employed as an operating engineer; hauling, fixing and operating heavy machinery and scrapping metal. Dominick was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8692 in Colonie. Dominick was a dedicated son, having lunch with his mother every day at noon at her home on Waterman Avenue. He enjoyed spending time with his friends in his backyard. You could always find Dominick tinkering with his equipment, but he always kept his hands clean. He was an animal lover and enjoyed gardening and moving dirt. Besides his parents, Dominick was predeceased by his former wife, Concetta (Longo) Scicchitano; and his brothers, John, Benjamin and Salvatore Scicchitano. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Mary Scicchitano (Gerald Fuschino) of Rotterdam, Vicki Cook of Fredericksburg, Va. and Teresa Scicchitano (Brandon deWaal) of Petersburg; his sisters, Esther Cain of Daleville, Va. and Connie Krystek of Stetson Hills, Ariz.; his brother, Frank Scicchitano of California; grandchildren, Lindsey, Jeremy and Jason; great-grandson, Gavin; and his beloved feline companions, Foxy, Mama Kitty, Gray Kitty and Pretty Kitty. He is also survived by his special friend and aide of eight years, Pina; his other devoted aides, Danielle and Cheryl as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 23, from 5-7 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday from the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Dominick's family would like to thank the Bright Horizons Day Program, Day Haven Program in Schenectady, the Eddy Day Program and the staff at the Albany Stratton V.A.
