Peg was born in Brookfield, Ohio on Dec. 29, 1925. She was the daughter of James and Marie (Sweeney) Madden. She graduated from Sharon High School in 1943. Peg married the love of her life, Jim, in 1947. She worked at Westinghouse before moving to Muncie, IN in 1961 with her husband and three children. She attended Ball State University and received her Bachelor's Degree, majoring in education in just three years. She taught at Blackford County High School for 17 years.
Peg was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she volunteered much of her time as a Sacristan. Her faith was the most important thing in her life. She was a Life Master of Bridge. She loved playing bridge with her friends. She also taught bridge to others throughout the Muncie area for a number of years. She was a member of the Duplicate Bridge Club and Pi Omega Pi.
Peg is survived by her three sons, Timothy (Paulette) Carnes, Michael (Mary) Carnes, and James Carnes; sister, Cheri (Phil) Luckert; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; beloved friend, Billy Retz; and many nephews, nieces and step-children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Church, 2300 W. Jackson St., Muncie, with Rev. John Nwanze, celebrant. Family and friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garden View Funeral Home.
