Employed for much of his life as gas station operator, trapper, harvest hand, road construction & pipeline worker throughout the Depression Years and finally a shipyard painter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton during WW11. He enjoyed hunting & fishing sometimes taking along one or more of his three sons.
Died from burns in an accidental car fire while travelling to Carthage, South Dakota, his former longtime home, to visit his mother. He leaves behind his wife Hazel, his three sons; Richard Duane, Donald Dean, Harold Gust and a daughter, JoAnne Marie. Also surviving him are his mother, Mary Recknagel of Carthage and a brother, Roy of Lake Orion, Michigan.
