July 16, 1931 - July 2, 2017

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, July 2, 2017, Mr. Leon T. Barton, Jr., 85, loving husband of 65 years to Ann Barton.

Mr. Barton was a member of Curtis Baptist Church where he served as chairman to the Deacons. He was Scout Master of Troop #14 at Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a children’s Sunday school teacher. He served two years in the United States Army in the 11th Airborne Division, President of the Augusta Rescue Mission and the Augusta Civitan Club, and was a Master Mason. Mr. Barton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his son: Lee Barton, III (Lisabeth) of Roswell; daughter: Kathy Howard (Ed) of Aiken; grandson: Edward Howard; brother: Melvin Barton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of his loving caregivers who allowed him to remain comfortable at home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Sherrill Dunn officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest cemetery.
