Gretchen Seidl Smith, 76, passed away on June 10, 2017 in her home in Denver, Colorado. A celebration of her life will be held at Denver Botanic Gardens - All American Selections Garden on July 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation arrangements have been provided by Fairmount Cemetery.

Gretchen was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Margaret and Stuart Seidl on September 24, 1940. Gretchen attended University of Colorado in Boulder, where she earned a degree in Sociology. She worked for the city of Denver as a Social Worker, and later focused her attention on her family while volunteering her time in support of various causes, including domestic violence prevention, women's rights, and the Dumb Friends League.

She met her husband, Doyle P. Smith, while attending University of Colorado. They were married 35 years before he passed in 1998. Gretchen loved flowers, nature, animals, art and theater, volunteer work, travel, good wine (always with ice), good food (always reheated), and a good laugh (always heartfelt).

Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Stuart, and her husband, Doyle.

Gretchen is survived by her brother Bill Seidl and his wife Debbie Seidl of Shalimar, Florida, and their children John Seidl and his wife Lauren of Marietta, Georgia as well as Katie Kocik and her husband Mike of Pittsford, New York. She is also survived by her daughters Gretchen and her husband Larry West of Centennial, Colorado and Brianna Smith of Westminster, Colorado. Lastly, Gretchen is survived by her grandchildren Roman and Mikaela West of Centennial.

The family wishes to express gratitude and love to all of Gretchen's friends and neighbors who enjoyed her company and looked after her with kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Denver Dumb Friends League and the Denver Botanic Gardens.
