Rhoda was the daughter of Allen and
Sarah (Allison) Smith.
Her marriage to Thomas Maxwell Jr. took place in Knox County, Illinois on March 6, 1836.
To them were born eleven children, of whom eight were living at the time of Rhoda's death.
Two sons, James and Robert, and
one daughter, Amanda, preceded her in death.
Eight surviving children were:
Mrs. Lucinda Murphy, Cambridge, IL.;
Reuben Maxwell, Liberty, IL.;
Mrs. Susan Mintle, Grinnell, Iowa;
Mrs. Mary E. Smith, Bishop Hill, IL.;
John A. Maxwell, Malcolm, Iowa;
Mrs. Harriett Reed, Hugo, Colorado;
William H. Maxwell, Hand Co., South Dakota;
and
Charles Maxwell of Nash, Texas.
Besides her eight children, Rhoda left
34 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren
and 2 great-great-grandchildren,
making in all 115 direct decendants.
