In the name of God, Amen. I, Derick Aten of Upper Mount Bethel in the county of Northampton & State of Pennsylvania being of sound mind and memory and understanding for which blessing & thank my God so make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner following that is to say First it is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly pay and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.
Item I give and devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Aten the use of all my household goods and furniture and also all my person property of whatsoever nature or kinds and also the use of all my houses ___ __ and the rents issues and profits thereof for and during the term of her natural life empowering her at any time during her natural life to make sale of my part of my personal property that she may think proper and it is my will that my said wife Sarah shall hold use and occupy and enjoy my said real and personal estate upon the express condition that she shall as soon as she can conveniently pay all the small debts that I may owe at the time of my death out of my personal estate: and further that my said wife shall maintain & provide for my children that is to say bring them up & provide for their education and support out of my estate so long as they shall be dutiful & obedient children to her but then they shall cease to obey her just & proper commands then she shall no longer be bound for their education & support . Said support continues until they arrive at the age of twenty one years and whereas I am indebted to my worthy and trusty friend James Ramsey of Ramseyburg in a large sum of money In my real estate, It is my will that the amount due __ one from my fathers estate on the first day of April next shall be paid by my wife to the said James Ramsy on his debt and that my wife shall from time to time as the same shall grow due pay __ the interest upon the said debt to the said James Ramsey and as much of the principal as she may be enabled to from the profits of my estate And it is my will that in case my friend James Ramsey will not hold the incumberance against my estate until my said wife shall be able to pay them off by the rents __ & profits of my estate then in that case I do hereby empower my executor hereinafter named to borrow money sufficient to pay and discharge the said Ramseys claim & charge my real estate by bond & mortgage for the repayment of such loan. It is my said will that all the ___ before ___ Y& bequeath made to my said wife Sarah Aten is upon the express condition the she do remain my widow and in case she shall at any time mary again then it is my will that the whole of my real & personal estate shall be sold by my executors hereinafter named and after all my debts shall have been paid & discharged the balance of my estate shall be divided amongst my heirs according to laws. __ any of my children should die under the age of twenty one Years & without lawful issue then I order and my will is that the portion herein devided or bequeathed to such child or children will be equally divided between the remaining of my said children in equal portions share and share alike. Item It is my will that at the death of my wife Sarah Aten (if she shall remain my widow as herein before provided for) that all my real & personal estate shall be sold at public sale by my surviving executors hereinafter named, and after paying all my debts that may remain unpaid and the remainder of my estate to divided & pay equally amongst all my children share & share alike. Item It is my will and I do hereby appoint & constitute my beloved wife Sarah Aten guardian of all and every & each of my children after my decease until they shall severally arrive to the age of twenty one years.
