Robert E. Ventress Dies at Hospital

Robert E. Ventress, 76, a boat builder who piled his trade along the shores of the Mississippi and Illinois rivers ln this area for many years, died Tuesday at 6:10, p. m., St Joseph's Hospital. He had been a patient there since Nov. 26. Ventress was moved to,the hospital from his residence on East Broadway the day after Thanksgiving. His condition was serious when he was moved to the hospital and since the 'first of the week he had gradually been growing weaker. Born in the vicinity of Clinton, Mo., July 9,1860, Ventress came to Alton hi his youth and for more than 50 years had lived hi this area. At times he had been away from Alton as he moved along the river on boat building jobs, but he always maintained his home here. Three years ago, while he was working at Grafton, his Wife died. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Clinton Osteri of Beaumont, Tex., and a son, Robert Emmett Ventress of Godfrey. He aiso.leaves two sisters.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 at the Klunk funeral Home 20 Court Street. Burial will be in Godfrey cemetery beside the grave of his wife.
