Richard Merle Dickinson of Union, MO, departed this life at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on June 29, 2017, having reached the age of sixty-nine years, nine months and twenty-eight days. Richard was born in St. Louis, MO, on September 1, 1947, son of John Wilson Dickinson and Bessie Lena Dickinson nee Jones. On August 20, 1966, he was united in marriage to Linda Kay Crum and two children came to bless this union.
Richard is survived by his wife, Linda Dickinson of Union, MO; by his children, Kip Dickinson and wife, Shelly, of Wright City, MO and Erin Tesar and husband, Brett, of Union; by three grandchildren, Tre', Rilyn and Carrison Tesar all of Union; by his mother-in-law, Lola Crum of Union; by one brother, John L. Dickinson and wife, Jean, of Hermann, MO; by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Dickinson and Bessie Dickinson Adams, and by his father-in-law, Wilson Crum.
Richard was a Christian and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Lonedell, MO. He was a member and retiree of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiner of America, Local 1839 of St. Louis, MO. He had worked in both commercial and residential construction. He was a talented carpenter and enjoyed working with wood in his spare time. Since his retirement, Richard had enjoyed many hobbies and interests. He was passionate about old tractors and was a member and Past President of the Ozark Highland Tractor Club. He also collected antique one-cylinder motors and especially liked the two-cyclinder "Johnny Poppers". He and Linda liked to travel with their fifth wheel camper and had been throughout the United States. Hunting and fishing were other hobbies but he enjoyed them even more when his grandchildren were with him. He truly loved filling the role of Grandpa and cherished the time spent with the grandchildren.
A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law ,uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Reverends Ben Kingston and. Brad Banderman officiating. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery, Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to the Life and Hope Fund, a fund sponsored by St. Luke's Hospital to give assistance to Cancer patients.
