AKERS, Wendell, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Wendell was born on September 12, 1946 to Oscar and Annie (Evans) Akers in Grethel, KY.

Wendell proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War and later retired from D.A.P. after 27 years. He loved his grandchildren, working in his yard, classic cars, NASCAR, country music, and University of KY. He attended House of Prayer church.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Evan & Eugene; sister, Magalene Patrick. He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Jason) Simmons; son, Wendell A. Akers; grandchildren, Faith & Nico Simmons; brothers, Lovel (Chris) Akers, Austin Akers; sisters, Shirlene (Foster) Akers, Ameline (Bob) Damron, Marlene (Harless) Spears, Avonele (Larry) Spears; numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at the Dayton VA Medical Center. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017, 10am at House of Prayer, 1220 Wallaby Dr., Beavercreek, OH 45430 The family will greet friends following the service at the church. In memory of Wendell, donations may be made to House of Prayer church.
