Joel Baker was a Southern gentleman who was a doting grandfather, loving husband and devoted servant to God.

He stretched every waking minute of the day as far as he could, spending time with his family, attending men,s Bible Study and serving his community-which he did for the better part of four decades as a volunteer firefighter and deputy.

He was a dedicated employee of Florida Power and Light for 50 years. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 11, 1943 and he grew up in Miami and moved to DeLand in 1973.

He was preceded in death by grandson Joseph Baker and parents Joe and Katherine Baker. Joel is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marcia; his son Daryl Baker (Susan) of North Carolina; daughter Laura Wells (Andy) of DeLand; grandchildren Andrew Wells of DeLand, Caroline (Chase) Searcey, Caitlynn Baker, William Baker, Madelynn Baker, MacKenzie Baker, all of North Carolina; sisters Sandra Clifford of North Carolina, Lyndal (Gary) Church of Tennessee and sister in law Pat Perryman of DeLand and many nieces and nephews.

He was welcomed into the arms of his Lord with his grandson, Alex Wells, on June 22, 2017.

A service will be held on Friday, June 30th at 11am at LifePoint Community Church in Deland. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11am prior to the service.
