George Walter Tasker, 91, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center. Mr. Tasker was born in 1925 in Romney, West Virginia, the son of the late Sarah Moyers. He owned and operated a sawmill in Winchester, Virginia and enjoyed woodworking and crafts. Mr. Tasker was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines. He was a member of Calvary Church of the Brethren. George will be forever remembered as a faithful family man, a friend to many who will never be forgotten, and a faithful servant to God. His wife, Bertha C. Tasker, whom he married on June 5, 1944 in Winchester, Virginia preceded him in death on August 8, 2007. Surviving are daughters, Janet Doran and husband, John of Lincoln, Nebraska; Ann Turner and husband, Dewey of Winchester, Virginia; Betty Russell and husband, Mike of Clear Brook, Virginia; Sue Griffith and husband, William of Winchester, Virginia; Joy Vickers of Moorefield, West Virginia; Robin Canfield and husband, Jerry of Winchester, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Jan Tasker of Winchester, Virginia; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Along with his wife he was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy and Mark Tasker; one granddaughter; two great grandsons; and one great-great grandson. The family will receive friends from 7 pm to 9 pm on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Saturday at Calvary Church of the Brethren, 578 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, Virginia with Pastor Chuck Davis and Pastor Jonathan Martino officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia. A time of food and fellowship will follow at Calvary Church of the Brethren. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Tasker’s grandchildren. Memorial contributions in memory of George may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
