James Garfield Murrell, 89, of Marked Tree, Arkansas died June 24, 2017, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House surrounded by his family.

Mr. "Garfield," as he was known, was a dedicated member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, serving as an usher and trustee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his son, Rickey Harris; daughters, Phylis White of Memphis, Sheila Newton of Little Rock, Beverly Barnes of Trumann, Cheryl Burnett of Jonesboro and Kimberly Wells of Gosnell; 34 grand-children; 42 great-grand-children.

Services were held at St. John Missionaary Baptist Church. Burial was in Cherry Bean Cemetery directed by Woodard's Marked Tree Funeral Service.
