John S. Brent(b. 1781, d. October 1856) WAS NOT John Giles Brent/John Gunn Brent who was son of Col. Charles and Rachel Moore Brent, although the author Chester Horton Brent(1936) in his book, "The Descendants of Hugh Brent, Immigrant to the Isle of Wight, VA, 1642,..." linked these two men together. The author had only a meager note by a KY descendant who had limited knowledge, therefore the author stated he linked the ancestry as "negatively proven" for he had no other John to link to. Obviously the author DID NOT gather KY records of the aforementioned counties, and not even one appropriate census. The 1850 census clearly detailed the age of our John S. Brent, born 1781, Fauquier, VA.

Two VA records DISPROVE the author's link to Col Charles Brent of "Winter Hill," Frederick, VA: Col. Charles Brent married Rachel Moore, 3 Dec 1795, Frederick County, VA. OUR John S. Brent was born 1781, VA. (Frederick County, VA, Marriages, 1738-1850," p. 377) Their son John Gunn Brent was born 6 Dec 1803 in Frederick County, VA. OUR John (b. 1781 VA) married 1806 to Sally Kennison in Washington County, KY, marriage record. All of Col. Charles Brent's children were listed in the bible record. OUR John was born 14 years BEFORE Col Charles married 1795 Rachel Moore. Rachel Moore Brent was 6 years old when OUR John S. ( Source: "Virginia Bible Records,"p.168-169, by Jeannette Holland Austin, 2000; holdings of North Carolina State Archives, Dept. of History and Genealogy, North Carolina Dept. of Cultural Resources, Raleigh, NC) The DATES tell all truth!!
