JOHN RUSSELL BENSON, SR of Cape Canaveral, FL - he was the son of Atley and Clara Bensen. He graduated from Melbourne High, was a WWII, U.S. Navy veteran who served on the USS Lexington in the battle of the Coral Sea and on the USS Alabama and was a plank holder. J.R. graduated from Tulane University with an Engineering degree with the Navy V-12 program, received his commission as an officer and served aboard the USS Kent until the end of the war, began his career with Florida Power & Light and retired after 35 years. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ann Marie Raywood Benson; sons, John, Jr (Debbie) Bensen and Michael Louis Bensen; 4 granddaughters and 1 great-granddaughter.
