Elizabeth was a daughter of Richard Ashcraft and Elizabeth Carr. Elizabeth is thought to be a sister of Rachel Ashcraft, who married Blancit Shacklett, a brother to Benjamin Woodbridge Shacklett.

The military marker for Benjamin W. Shacklett was placed next to the small stone inscribed, "E. S.," of which a photo is shown here.

Elizabeth Ashcraft married Benjamin Woodbridge Shacklett on Oct. 9, 1792. They had 13 children:
