HICKORY Peggy Reynolds Yancey, of Hickory, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at Catawba Regional Hospice following a brief illness. Born Nov. 27, 1926, in Notasulga, Ala., she graduated from Tuskegee High School and attended Auburn University, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. Peggy married Sam Yancey from Camp Still, Ala., in 1954. She was a long-time active and devoted member of First Baptist Church in Hickory. Cooking and delighting her friends with homemade biscuits and the gift of Southern cooking was her joy. Playing bridge, volunteering, gardening, and true friendship were her pastimes. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her parents, John Hugh and Ella Reynolds of Tuskegee, Ala.; her sisters, Dommie Sharpe of Auburn, Ala. and Johnnie Davis of Montevallo, Ala.; and her brother, Buddy Reynolds of Tuskegee. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her spunk and style; and her close friends, Mike and Buzz Aronson, and Charlie and Joyce Trado. Following a private burial, a memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, June 26, at First Baptist Church in Hickory, with the Rev. Rendell Hipps officiating. Visitation with the family will be held in the church parlour one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Humane Society of Catawba County, 3224 20th Ave. SE, Hickory, NC 28602; Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658; or First Baptist Church, 339 2nd Ave. NW, Hickory, NC 28601. The family expresses its deepest appreciation for the concern and tender care provided by the doctors, nurses, and staff of Catawba Regional Hospice.
