"J. T. Pollard. A history of Pike County would be incomplete without a brief mention of the enterprising and successful young planter whose name heads this sketch.

He was born in Georgia, September 27, 1852, a son of Joel K. and Sarah E. (Youngblood) Pollard, both natives of Georgia. They had a family of two children, viz: Mary J. (who married Henry L. Adamson, and now resides in Heard County, Ga.), and Joel T. (the subject of this sketch).

The father was a planter by occupation, and at the time of his death owned fifty acres of land. Both he and wife were members of the Missionary Baptist Church. He died November 27, 1852. His widow is still living and resides at Rock Mills, Ala.

The subject of this sketch was reared and educated in Georgia, and at the age of twenty-one years commenced life for himself by engaging in agricultural pursuits, at which he has been eminently successful, for he now owns 200 acres of good land, with fifty acres under cultivation.

December 6, 1873, he was married to Miss Martha E. Adamson, a native of Georgia, and daughter of George and Matilda Adamson, and to this union have been born eight children, viz: Joel M. (deceased), Tilden H., John T., Minnie L., Jim P., Olin M., Albert C. (deceased), and Lulu May.

Mr. Pollard is a member of the Masonic fraternity, belonging to Pisgah Lodge No. 250, and has served as senior warden and senior deacon in the same. He is actively interested in educational matters, and now holds the office of school director. His wife is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church."

A TRIBUTE TO J.T. POLLARD, Sr.

"To live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die."

On Sunday, September 16th, 1934, at the home of his son, Dr. T.H. Pollard in (Pollard) Oklahoma, the soul of J.T. Pollard, former Judge and Representative of Pike County, Arkansas, took its flight to God who gave it.

Judge Pollard, as he was familiarly called, was nearing his eighty second year when summoned to meet Him whom he had so faithfully served during his long christian life.

In the going of this venerable christian citizen, the host of his acquaintances and friends have lost a safe counselor, but the influence of his long and homorable life will remain as a leaven for good in the lives of all who met him in social and business contact.

Truth, honor and virtue were cardinal virtues in Judge Pollard's life. They were with him both in public and private life and were reflected in his work as a legislature or on the bench of County and Probate Judge in both of which official positions his character remained unsullied and his name without a blemish of discredit.

His membership of the Baptist Church extended back for possibly more than a half century, and in that church he was always found in the true faith "once delivered to the saints," and allowed no inovation to divert him from the path marked out by Holy Writ. He was also a consistent and faithful member of the Masonic Lodge whose Grand Master and Past Grand Master officiated with his local lodge in his burial.

If a faithful and well-spent christian life can heighten the joys of heaven, surely Judge Pollard shares in the bliss of that home which remains for the people of God.

"There is no death: the stars go down
To rise upon some other shore,
And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown,
They shine foe evermore."
