She was born August 5, 1935, in Grundy, to the late Frank and Eliza Leonard.
Mrs. Yates retired after 35 years of service as a secretary for the federal government.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Elijah Wayne Yates.
Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands, Leona Lynn Goswellen and William of Stafford and Melissa Carol Hutcheson and Richard E. Moore II of Bealeton; five grandchildren, William Wayne Vipraio, Kristin Michele Vipraio, Kelsey Noel Johnson, Courtney Dawn Hutcheson and Kimberly Ann Hutcheson; three great-grandchildren, William Anthony Vipraio, Keira Marie Vipraio and Ashton Lee-Elijah Dore, and four sisters-in-law, Geneva Leonard, Phyllis Estep, Ruth Brown and Peggy Yates.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm, Friday, June 16, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton and for her “Homegoing Celebration” at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17. A graveside service will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens near Manassas.
