TANNER, AL - An altercation in Limestone County escalated into a murder Monday afternoon. Sheriff's office spokesman Stephen Young said the suspect, 26-year-old Benjamin Cordell Waddle of Madison, was at an acquaintance's home on Stewart Road in Tanner. The victim, 35-year-old Michael Antonio Peoples, showed up and the two got into an altercation, deputies say. Young said Peoples started "taunting" Waddle, and the pair decided to go outside to fight. As they were heading out into the yard, Waddle reportedly stabbed Peoples in the back with a knife. He had multiple stab wounds when responders found him. The home's resident was the main witness, deputies say. Deputies were called to the scene close to 1:45 p.m. Young said a medical helicopter responded, but People was too unstable for flight. He was taken by ambulance to Athens-Limestone Hospital and was pronounced dead. Waddle was arrested and charged with murder. He remains in the Limestone County Jail. Bond has not been set at this time. The investigation is ongoing at this time. (AL.Com)
