Bob D. Garrett, 85, of Amarillo died Sunday, June 25, 2017.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mr. Garrett was born Dec. 26, 1931, to Asahel and Ruby Garrett. He was raised in Wilburton, Okla., where he graduated from high school in 1948. He then moved to Amarillo, before enlisting in the Army in 1950. Bob served two years in the Army, earning a purple heart before being medically discharged in 1952.

Upon returning to Amarillo, he attended West Texas State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in accounting. He married Julie Ann Mott in 1956 in Amarillo. She preceded him in death in 2008.

Bob worked for Diamond Shamrock for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed many family trips to New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma, where he loved fishing, camping, boating and spending time with his family. After retirement, he spent much of his time at Lake Fork. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church for more than 65 years. Most of all, Bob loved his family and cherished being Papaw to his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Kenneth Garrett; a brother-in-law, Vigil Lalli; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Garrett.

Survivors include four daughters, Charlotte Walsh of Amarillo, Debbie Hudler of New Ulm, Sharon Taylor and husband Dub of Boerne and Angie Bagwell and husband Tim of Claude; a brother, Tracy Garrett and Georgeann of Houston; a sister, Marian Lalli of Norman, Okla.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild on the way.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to The Hudson House of Claude and to Abundantly Blessed Home Care of Amarillo for the loving care they bestowed upon Bob.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
