Carl E. Erickson, age 89, of Clinton, died Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Westwood Living Center.
Carl was born December 24, 1927 to Paul Erickson and Sarah (Rymer) Erickson of Sedalia, MO. After high school, Carl enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII aboard the USS Fargo and the USS Wyoming. He also served in the Marine Corps and was very proud of being a Veteran. He married Alida Lyn Moore on July 25, 1950 in Kansas City and they raised their daughters in the KC area.
Carl married Karen J. Towle on August 11, 1976 in Denver, CO where they resided most of the time until 2004 when they moved to Clinton, MO to be close to Carl's family. Carl spent 35 years in Electrical Engineering management, project supervision and design and that involved moving and living in different locations. Karen was good at packing. He also served on a number of boards and councils in Denver including the Cannon City District Advisory council with the Dept. of the Interior Bureau of Land Management and the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. Carl was appointed to and then elected Director on the Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board where he was responsible for 150,000 people in the Denver Metro Area. RTD got the Light Rail system going and Carl was involved in all aspects of that. He loved it and got to travel and eat out often. He would call from Seattle and tell me about the wonderful steak for dinner. I would say "I had soup". In 1987 we bought a 38' houseboat in St Petersburg, FL and planned to live there full-time, but Carl got a consulting position in Denver and we had to go back and forth. "The Two Best Days". He also planned a Welcome Home Parade in 1991 after Desert Storm and worked with the Air Force Academy and the Generals and staff at Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs to arrange a fly-over by the B-2 Stealth Bomber. There was lots of military hardware and people got the opportunity to meet the pilots and see equipment. (Good military recruiting!)
Moving to Clinton in 2004 was a good decision and we were able to do "Family" things – weddings, showers, graduations and time with Children and Grandchildren. Carl was fully retired and thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Henry County Historical Society in Clinton where he spent many pleasurable hours in the Military room. It was a good marriage, a long marriage, a happy marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of the home; three daughters, Christine McFarland (Gary) of Overland Park KS, Carol Montague (Steve) of Kansas City, MO and Sally Lewis of Overland Park, KS; seven grandchildren, Lesley May (Jeff), John McFarland, Mike Montague (Kim), Ryan Montague (Debra), Laura Burmeister (Eric), Kelsey Mathias (BZ) and Megan Lewis (Brad); also 9 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and other family members and friends.
Preceding him is death were his parents; three siblings; and one infant great-grandson.
