His teaching career spanned almost 40 years in Mt. Vernon and Marion schools. After retiring in 2006 he volunteered with Marion Senior Circle, Marion Senior Club and Heartland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Les was a life member of the Illinois Educational Association/National Education Association, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kiwanis, United Commercial Travelers and Marion Elks Club #800.
He is survived by his four sons; Jeffrey of New Orleans, LA; Gregory of Marion,IL Timothy of Kinnelon, NJ; and Christopher (Jennifer) of London, England. Les also leaves a grandson, Sean of Kinnelon, NJ; a nephew David Porter and wife Jess of Mt. Vernon and their five grandchildren. His parents; brother Everett E. Porter; infant sister Joyce J. Porter; and nephew Michael Loss preceded him in death.
