Thomas John Berning, 63, passed peacefully Monday, June 26, 2017 with sleep apnea. Growing up on the family farm, here in Southwest Fort Wayne, Tom was one of seven children. He was a graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School where he excelled in athletics. He worked at Vera Bradley as a truck driver and prior was in construction. He is a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church.
Tom is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda Berning of Fort Wayne; son, Ben (Amne) Berning of Fort Wayne; parents, Dorothy (and the late, Henry) Berning of Fort Wayne; brothers, Henry "Hank" Berning of Fort Wayne, Daniel (Nancy) Berning of Valparaiso, Michael (Denise) Berning of Leesburg and Kent Berning of Arkansas; sisters, Janet (Eric) Olsen Of Fort Wayne and Jean (Mark) Bienz of Florida.
Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2131 Getz Road, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Reed Lessing will be officiating. Calling is also 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the church. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens.
