Steve Sadowski, 69, of Elm Street, former president of the board of governors and general manager of the Toledo health and Retiree Center, died yesterday in St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was admitted six weeks ago after having fallen from a ladder in his garage.
Mr. Sadowski was a former chairman of the Jeep unit of Local 12, United Auto Workers and a shop officer25 years at Jeep Corp.
In 1970, Mr. Sadowski was named president of the Retiree Center. Under his leadership, the center expanded, opening an extended-care center and the Ashland Manor, an apartment building for retirees. Mr. Sadlowski was relieved of his duties in 1979 after the center experienced financial difficulties, but was retained briefly as a consultant.
Mr. Sadowski was past president of the Jeep pension board, a board member of Local 12 UAW summer camp program, and a board member of the Lucas County welfare commission. He organized one of the city's first nutrition programs for senior citizens.
A World War II army veteran, he was a member of Buddy Frankowski Post, VFW, Argonne Post, American Legion, the Lagrange Business and Professional Men's Association, and the 94th Infantry Division Association.
Surviving are his wife Alvina; son, Robert; daughter, Linda, and 3 grandchildren.
The body will be in the Wisniewski Mortuary after 6 tonight, with Scripture services at 3 p.m. tomorrow, followed by American Legion services at 7 and recitation of the Rosary by the VFW at 7:30. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Hedwig Church.
