Rev. Francis J. Dwyer, 78, former Milltown pastor, dies
New Brunswick – The Reverend Francis J. Dwyer, a former pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, Milltown, died Friday at Morris Hall Nursing Home, Lawrenceville. He was 78. He was born in New Brunswick, the son of the late Henry and Mary Fallon Dwyer, and graduated from Seton Hall University, South Orange and Mt. St. Mary's Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md. Father Dwyer was ordained to the priesthood on May 21, 1932, and was assigned as an associate pastor to St. Lawrence R.C. Church, Laurel Springs, where he served from 1932 to 1933. He also served as associate pastor at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, Trenton, from 1933-1935, St. Mary's R.C. Church, Gloucester, from 1935-1936 and St.James R.C. Church, Red Bank, from 1936 to 1941.In 1941, he was named to his first pastorate at St. James R.C. Church, Jamesburg, and also served as chaplain at the Jamesburg Boys Home until 1944. From 1944 to 1947, he was pastor of St. Dorothea R.C. Church, Eatontown, and in 1947, was named pastor of Precious Blood R.C. Church, Monmouth Beach. In September, 1950, he was named pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Milltown, where he served until his retirement in November 1973. He was the brother of the late Henry "Hank" Dwyer, a former New Brunswick city clerk. Surviving are his sister, and four nieces.
