My father is a great grandson of John S. Boren and his wife, Mary Emma (Goodger) Boren. He and my mother visited the cemetery and confirmed with the sexton that John and Mary Emma are buried in unmarked graves next to their children.

John designed a unique molasses evaporateur. He appeared in a trade journal called “The Sugar Cane” in July of 1883 under his full name, John Spencer Boren. Spencer was the name of his maternal grandfather. In 1884, John and his brother, Charles, obtained a patent for their invention, a “horse-power”, which was mentioned in the jourrnal “Scientific America”.
