Betty W. Stinnett, 92, was surrounded by her family when she passed away at 7:18 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017, at Rolling Meadows in LaFontaine.
One of the first recorded identical triplets born in Grant County, Betty was a lifelong resident of Marion.  One triplet, Ruth, died at six months.  The remaining triplet, Jean, resides in Nebraska.  Together, Betty and Jean twirled batons for Marion High School.
Raised by politically active relatives, Betty developed a keen interest in local Democratic politics.  Eventually, she ran for City Council, attended Democratic State Conventions, and was heavily involved in the local Women Democrats group.  She was on several boards, including Board of Works, Pal Club, and Water Works Board of Directors.
Work life started at the telephone company.  Later, she went on to work at the South Marion Dairy Queen, as Marion City Controller, Spectrum newspaper, Gas City Building Units, the Postal Credit Union, and the City Employees Credit Union.  Betty also volunteered at Marion General Hospital and generally helped when someone needed an extra hand.
Betty was also a wife and mother.  She was married in 1949 to Delbert E. Stinnett, Sr., and they shared 29 years together until his untimely death in 1978.
As a mother, Betty raised two children, Lana Kay and Del, Jr..  She was active in their lives as well, being involved in PTA, as Room Mother, and Boy and Girl Scouts.
Betty enjoyed watching basketball, sewing, traveling, “keeping house”, making Christmas candy, tending her beloved pets, and she notoriously loved shopping.  She also enjoyed spending time with her husband at their mobile home on Goose Lake, near Columbus City.
She will be missed by her sister, Jean Hulce, Bennington, Nebraska; daughter, Lana Kay Stinnett-Cracknell, Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Delbert (Nikki) Stinnett, Jr., Marion; granddaughters, Lydia Jo (Marcus) Ballenger, Indianapolis, and Sheena Dawn Stinnett, Marion; great-grandchildren, Makayla Jackson, Marion, Miles Ballenger and Katherine Ballenger, both from Indianapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
