Heiress, Explorer, Patriarch, widow of Richard M. Tobin, (former United States minister to The Netherlands who died in 1952) and daughter of a founder of W & J. Sloane, Inc, of New York City. She previously had been married to James A. Burden, who died in 1932. Mr. Burden, who was a member of H. Burden and Sons Iron Co., was the son of James A. and nephew of I. Townsend Burden, brothers who conducted the firm in 1871. In 1924, when the Prince of Wales, now the Duke of Windsor, visited this country, she and Mr. Burden turned over their Syosset estate, Woodside Acres, to him. Mrs. Tobin was a former president of the Colony Club of New York City and daughter of William Douglas Sloane and Emily Vanderbilt Sloane.
