Survived by wife Dr. Suzanne Brandon, children: Ellen Slaton, Long Beach, CA, Rabbi Eric R. Slaton (Kim), Hamilton, OH, (Step) children Donna Redhead (Richard Bubel), Fairbanks, AK, David Briggs, Rockford, TN. Grandchildren: Evan, Seth & Micah Slaton, OH; David, Kristina & Jennifer Sandberg, AK. Preceded in death by parents Emil & Wilhelmine Eckstein (holocaust victims), adoptive parents Oscar & Hermine Slaton, first wife Susan Slaton and (step) son Daniel and (step) daughter Margaret and sister Ruth Harris. Born in Vienna, Austria 1923. Lived in England for seven years. Served with U.S. Army in Italy. Practiced optometry in Hopkins, MN for 35 years and with Health Partners thereafter. Served on Hopkins City Council, Planning Commission, Charter Commission, Police Service Commission and Center for the Arts Facility Commission and board. Past President Minnesota Optometric Assn, State Board of Optometry and Rotary Club of Hopkins; Fellow American Academy of Optometry & College of Optometrists (London); member George Wolff Post VFW, B’nai B’rith, Khurum Sunlight Lodge & Albert Pike Lodge AF&AM, Scottish Rite, and Temple Israel. Participated in seven missions to Mexico, Central & South America with VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity) and other volunteer activities. Senior King of Hopkins Raspberry Festival 2002-03. He enjoyed classical music, opera, theater and travel. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Jewish Family & Children’s Services or Hopkins Rotary Foundation.
