Ernestine was a 1934 graduate of the Philadelphia-Emerson High School. She started her working career as a beauty operator. She followed by working as a cook at Marion County R-II School, spent ten years at Motorola in Quincy, and returned to Marion County R-II where she retired.
Mrs. Tallent was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Quincy and a former member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church. As part of her Church devotion, she loved to sing, play piano, and was a former Sunday School Teacher.
She was a master gardener, both flowers and produce, where she devoted much of her spare time. She also enjoyed feeding and taking care of birds of all kinds, especially her humming birds.
