Shirley M. Sims went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 19, 2017.

She was the the daughter of Harold Tyler and Bertha McPherson. She was a lifelong resident of Chicago.

Shirley graduated from John D. Shoop Academy of Math & Science and George Washington Carver High School.

She retired from Jean Baptiste Point DuSable High School where she worked in the program office and assisted the principal. She was also employed as an admitting clerk at Roseland Hospital and enjoyed fellowship at the Apostolic Church of God.

Shirley was a free spirit with the smile and heart of an angel. She was friendly, outgoing and very generous. She loved giving, helping and shopping with her family and friends. She was an avid story teller and loved to play bridge. She enjoyed going to the beauty shop and kept her makeup, hair and nails well done. Shirley loved talking on the phone, eating good food, being waited on and going to the show. She was the heart and joy of our family. She was a wonderful blessing and will always be a part of many family and friend's lives. Shirley was very passionate about her family and worked extremely hard.

She was the loving mother of Lynne Brown, Michael Sims, Cheryll (Ricky) Sheard and Raymond Sims, Jr.; Shirley was a devoted grandmother to Toneea (Kwasi) Donely, Darryl Thomas, Jr., Michelle Sims, Ricandra Sheard and Rickeisha Sheard and beloved great-grandmother to Kwasi Donely, Jr., and Jorielle Thomas and a dear sister to Joyce and Karen. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet.
