Obituary:
George Robert Preas, 73, of Roanoke, died Saturday, February 24, 2007 at South Roanoke Nursing Home. He had Parkinson's Disease for 17 years. George is the father of two children who survive him, Kelly Leigh Preas of Oslo, Norway and George Robert Preas, Jr. (Geep) of Annapolis, Md.; and his devoted wife, B.J. Preas of Roanoke. Surviving members of his family are his brother, F. Gardand Preas of Conway, S.C.; and his aunt, Nellie Board of Roanoke, George's parents are the late Fred Garland and Lucille Preas. George was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Virginia Tech Class of 1955. He played four levels of Football, sandlot, high school, college, and professional football with the Baltimore Colts for 11 seasons. George had many business interests including a construction company. His passion for creating buildings was profound. He built four homes for his family, a motel in Blacksburg, a European plaza shopping center, Patio office condominiums, and other storage and office buildings. George served on several board of directors including banks, college, county commissions and others. George and B.J. have many supportive friends with special appreciation to Dr. Bill Elias, Dr. Dave Minichan, Dick Miller, Alfred Nelms, Evelyn Hale, Joyce Woolridge, Robert Bowling, Elsie Hinégar, Trena Mundy, Ann Newman, Marilyn Mullins, Wayne Gibson, Diane Swann, and Lisa Poff who was by his side for eight years. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, February 28, 2007 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Downtown, Roanoke Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Evergreen Burial Park. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Second Presbyterian Church with Dr. George Anderson, Dr. William Klein and Gerald Carter officiating and Raymond Berry, his former teammate with the Baltimore Colts will deliver a Eulogy to George.
