A writer, feminist, and arts patron. She joined her first husband William in Australia in January, 1855 and they tried a series of ventures in the areas of art and education which never quite took off. She wrote of life in Australia, often illustrated with her husband's paintings, and of the role and rights of women. They separated in the 1860s and she later married William Lynch. A prosperous lawyer, he enabled her to become an arts patron and together they assembled a significant art collection. She was a valued contributor to Melbourne life with her wit and writing.
