He was born October 25, 1931 in Herkimer the son of the late Thomas and Virginia Franco and was educated in Herkimer schools.
Ray proudly served his county in the United States Army as Military Police during the Korean Conflict. He enlisted on May 4, 1956 and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1962 with the rank of SP4.
He was married to the former Olga Bagan in 1955. Mrs Franco preceded him in death on November 30, 2015.
Mr. Franco was a twenty-year veteran with the Herkimer Police Department.
A man dedicated to his family, Raymond’s life was centered around his daughters and grandchildren. Ray enjoyed taking walks with his wife Olga and visit with all his friends and neighbors along the way.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Thomas) Walkush of Troy, Michigan and Cathy (Dennis) Irla of Warren, Michigan; a sister, Mary E. Franco of Herkimer; four brothers, Edward (Anne) Franco of Minneapolis, MN, Rocco (Rosemarie) Franco of Manlius, NY, John (Roseann) Franco of Herkimer, and Peter (Joan) Franco of New Hartford; 4 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces nephews, and Franco cousins.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Joseph and Thomas Franco, Jr., and a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Anthony “Pop” Cassella.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY with full military honors accorded.
