She was born in East Liverpool on Jan. 5, 1953 a daughter to the late James and Geneva (Stout) Powell. Mona was a 1973 graduate of East Liverpool High School and lived her life in the area. She worked as a nursing assistant for Ross and Essex Nursing Homes and was a member of TOPS 2231. She attended Wellsville First Christian Church, enjoyed playing Candy Crush and phone games, reading her daily devotions, but most of all, loved spending quality time with her family.
She is survived at home by her husband George Coles; a daughter: Emily Powell of Boardman, Ohio; two brothers: James (Bud) Powell and his wife Lora and Charles Powell and his wife both of East Liverpool; two sisters: Hazel L. Powell who survives her at home and Delores “June” Foden of East Liverpool; grandchildren: Andre and Jasmine Coles and Lainey Powell who she affectionately referred to as “Beautiful”, and two special nephews: Jaiden Foden and Duston Brewer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Herman Powell and two sisters: Izetta O’Hanlon and Dorothy Adkins.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark Blakely of the church officiating. Burial will take place in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Calcutta funeral home on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m..
