Ernest Charles Koval, 90 passed away peacefully on June 20, 2017. Born August 21, 1926 in Houston, TX
by Antone and Albina Koval. Mr. Koval proudly served his country in WWII in the Navy. Upon return
from the war he married his childhood sweetheart Ms. Mary Louise Champion. He was a devoted
husband to Mary and they were happily married for 58 years until she passed away in 2005. They had
two daughters, Marilyn and Carolyn who gave them 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His love
for his family was immeasurable and his grandchildren were his ultimate prides of joy.
Ernest was the life of the party with a strong presence and lively demeanor. He loved life and to make
others laugh. Caring, loving, hard working, compassionate, comical, giving and bold are a few words to
describe his unique personality. Ernest was quick to lend a hand to someone during a time of need and
out of the goodness of his generous heart.
He worked at Independence Sheet Metal for 30 years as a shop foreman and was a member of local
union 54 . Ernest also known as "Ernie" loved to hunt and fish and spent a lot of time at his bay home in
Sargent, TX. He was a talented carpenter and was described as a hardworking and talented man who
could build or fix anything .
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents, Antone and Albina, his brother Edwin Koval, sister Lilian
Schneider as well as his wife Mary. He leaves behind daughters, Carolyn Hunt and husband Jay Hunt
and Marilyn Newcomer; 4 grandchildren, Julie Sherber and husband Jason Sherber, Jennifer Aune,
Jason Hunt and Brandt Newcomer; 7 great grandchildren, Carter Hunt, Kyla Aune, Maggie Hunt, Nolan
Aune, Reagan Sherber, Waylan Aune and Reese Sherber.
A visitation is planned for Monday June 26, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodlawn Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial will be Tuesday June 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Garden of
Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service are Jason Hunt, Carter Hunt, Jason Sherber, Jay Hunt and Steve Champion.
