Raymond Trinkle Gilbert

Raymond Trinkle Gilbert, Sr., 95, of Rustburg, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Cardinal Home in Bedford. Twice married, he was the husband of the late Grace Webb Gilbert and the late Susan Mays Gilbert.
Born July 17, 1921 in Appomattox County, he was the son of the late Thomas Underwood and Carrie Trent Gilbert and was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Mr. Gilbert was the retired Pastor and Founder of Gospel Baptist Church and was a twenty-six year veteran of the U.S. military, where he honorably served his country during three wars, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Mr. Gilbert is survived by two sons, Raymond T. Gilbert, Jr. of Lynchburg and Michael T. Gilbert and wife Rebecca of Charlottesville; two daughters, Julia G. Carwile and husband Kyle and Betty G. Davidson, both of Lynchburg; eight grand-children and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 26, 2017, prior to the service, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 at Presbyterian Cemetery with Pastor Carlton Duck officiating. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 16.
