RACINE - Emil J. 'Amos' Larsen, 87, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Thursday, September 1, 2005. Emil was born in Racine on January 28, 1918, to Emil C. and Anna (nee: Jensen) Larsen. He married the former Elizabeth Wishau at First Baptist Church in Racine on March 8, 1947. Emil served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Bombardier over Italy during World War II. Emil was Executive Director for the YMCA, serving at various YMCA's in Racine, Illinois, Iowa, and Kansas. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, where he was very active and also taught Sunday School. Emil was very active in many civic organizations, including Rotary, Kiwanis, the Boy Scouts, and Indian Guides. Emil enjoyed working with young people at Careers Industries. He loved camping and family trips, working on craft projects, and golfing. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Larsen; daughter, Patricia Ann (Charles) Knight; daughter-in-law, Susan Larsen; grandchildren, Thomas Scott Larsen, Nicholas (Ginger) Larsen, and Megan Larsen; and great-grandson, Evan Larsen. Emil is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Larsen; granddaughter, Amanda Larsen; and sisters, Marie Wiegand, Florence Tigges, and Helen Bickford. Memorial services for Emil will be held at Christ Church United Methodist, 5109 Washington Avenue, on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Awilda Nolla officiating. Inurnment will take place in Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Friends of Camp Anokijig. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gierhan, his nurses, and the staff and patients of Ridgewood Care Center for all of their friendship, care, and compassion shown to Emil.
