He was the son of Don and Nettie Reynolds and born in Union City, Tennessee.
He graduated from Central High School, attended University of Tennessee, earned his undergraduate degree from Missouri Western State University, and then later received his master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University.
Barry and Barbara (Gach) were united in marriage August 6, 1977 in St. Joseph. He taught in the St. Joseph Public School District for over 25 years and continued part time work in the district mentoring and teaching in the classroom.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Abbey Thornton (Drew); grandchildren, Emma and Grace; and brothers, Jim (Sue) and Tim (Becky); and several nieces and nephews.
