Betty Abernathy, age 69, of Festus, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Crystal Oaks Assisted Living in Crystal City, Missouri. She was born December 14, 1946, in Ironton, Missouri, the daughter of the late Bonnie (nee Colburn) and Gordon Ebbeson.
She is survived by her husband, Allen "Tony" Abernathy, daughter Julie (Dale) Abernathie of Wildwood, Missouri, granddaughter Allison Abernathie; sister Barbara (the late Joseph) Johnson of Piggott, Arkansas, and brother Carl (Cathy) Ebbeson of Napa, California.
She was a second grade teacher at Festus Elementary School, a member of Church of Our Lady in Festus, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, PEO Chapter EH, the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, and the Jefferson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and gift shop volunteer.
Betty was a friend to everyone she met, and touched many lives. We hope her light will continue to shine through her many loving friends and family.
Visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 12, 2016, at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Church of Our Lady in Festus, officiated by Fr. Jeffrey Maassen and Fr. Jim Hanson. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials in her memory are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society.
