Joseph "Joe" Brooks Atkinson, 45, of Woodside Rd. Walkersville passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 6, 2017 in Walkersville.

He was born in Weston on July 5, 1971 a son of the late Brooks Atkinson and Joyce Parker Claypoole and stepfather, David Claypoole, of Ireland.

On November 26, 2002 he married the Raetta Eckes Atkinson who will miss him dearly after 14 years of marriage.

He is also survived by two sons: Jamie Lynn Atkinson and Jaxon Brooks Atkinson who live at home in Walkersville; two sisters: Misty Lattea and husband, Mike of Ireland, and Katrinia Butcher and fiance', Clint Coakley, of Weston; one stepbrother, Joseph Bargerhuff and wife, Melissa, of Jane Lew; two brothers-in-law: Danny Higham and companion, Brandi Stalnaker, of Weston and Phillip Higham of Walkersville; one sister-in-law, Mary Rohrbough and husband, David, of Alum Bridge; eleven nieces and nephews: Ryan and Bryce Posey, Brooklynn Lattea, Terrlen, Matthew, and Andrea Rohrbough, Bentley Higham, Abby and JoJo Coakley, Kiana Bargerhuff, and Presley Posey; several aunts and uncles; and his best friend, loyal companion, and beloved Boxer, Festus.

He was preceded in death by his beloved Lab, Max, who was always by his side.

Joe was an experienced oil field worker who was employed as a Wireline Engineer for Rush Wellsite Service in PA. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, and riding anything that was fast and furious, as he loved muscle cars, and his Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. Most of all, family was his greatest blessing and he treasured time spent with his wife and children. He was Baptist by faith.

Friends and family will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 11 a.m. 1 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m. from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Adam Burkhammer officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery in Roanoke.
