Janet Ruth Kanitz, 66 of St.Ignace passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 19 at Mid Michigan Medical Center in Midland. She was born in Ithaca,Michigan on November 12,1950. She graduated 5th in her class and was the Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year. She was very active in FFA in school. She was reared on a farm near Ithaca, and went to a one room school in her early years. She is a member of ST.Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, and will be remembered for her 25 years of work at Glens Market, now Family Fare. She was foremost a Mom, and raised her children herself, and had school kids for 21 years.Many children loved her cooking, and her love for kids. She loved her children and grandchildren., and was a full time grandmother.

She is survived by her family; Lee Kanitz, Hessel; Brent and Christie Kanitz, Midland; Becky Dennis, Hempstead, MD.; Bridget and Cory Sutherland, Vernon, Conn.;Linette Kanitz-Reyes and her husband Sanir, Hempstead, MD.; Lindsey (Nathan Zimmerman) Kanitz, St.Ignace; a brother, Phillip and Kathryn Lombard, Ithaca; and a special friend, Casimer Matelski, ST.Ignace and 14 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Ruth (Hibner) Lombard; and a son Ross Kanitz in 1995.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 26 at 1 1 am with Fr. Frank Ricca and Fr. Cory Litzner and Deacon Tom McCLellend officiating. Burial will be in Immaculate Cemetery in Moran next to her son Ross. Visitation will be from 10 am until service time.

Pallbearers will be John Blizzard; Jason Lombard; Albert Lombard; William Foster; Chad Smith and Carter Tallaire .
