Burl Williams, 99, of Lubbock, passed away on Tuesday June 20, 2017. He was born on October 10, 1917 in Eastland, Texas to the late Curt and Gertrude (Hudson) Williams. Burl served in the United States Army during WWII, from 1941-1945. He married the late Martha Ann Howard on July 26, 1945 in Mineral Wells, Texas and together they began their family.

Burl was the owner of Pay Day Grocery Store in Eunice, New Mexico from 1947- 1974, during this time he also owned a furniture store in Eunice from 1964-1974, then he began his retirement. He served as a Lea County Commissioner and was one of four founding members of the Frontier Country Club and assisted with construction and development of a nine-hole golf course in three days. While in Eunice he was a member of the Eunice Church of Christ, in 2000 he moved to Abilene, Texas where he was a member of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ then moved to Lubbock in 2010 where he was a member of Greenlawn Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish his memory are; son, Glen Williams and wife Denise of Noble, OK; daughters, Sherry Wilburn and husband Jim and Glenda Hicks and husband Ed of Lubbock, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Chuck Williams and wife Dorothy, Jill Wright and husband Dwayne and Carroll Duncan.

Burl is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother A.C Williams and wife Virginia; niece, Pat Duncan; and nephew, Mike Williams.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. with funeral services to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Cemetery.
