Mrs. Young proudly served our country in the Women’s Army Air Corp from 1945 until 1952. Emily was President of the Trustees of the Menaul School, Albuquerque, NM in the 1980s serving 20 years on the Menaul School Board, was a Charter Member of the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D. C. and was an active volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America.
During her working life she worked as a Computer Analyst with Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM, retiring after 35 years of service.
Emily was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Alexandria, LA.
Emily was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh R. Young parents, Frank and Rucia Allen Gillett and sister, Mary J. Grigsby.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Joe F. Young and his wife, Hope, grandchildren, Ethan Young and Holly Young Dean and her husband, Joshua, sisters, Corliss Reece and Margaret Grantham and numerous other family members and friends.
Memorial services, with Military Honor's, celebrating the life of Emily Gillett Young will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, June 23, 2017 in The Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria, with Dr. Jim Heath officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in West Lawn Cemetery, Gering, NE. Visitation will be observed from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Service.
The family has designated The Menaul School, 301 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87101, for Memorial Contributions.
